20100203

Day 34 : The Bromsgrove Sandstone was used as a building stone in much of South Staffordshire as it is the only competent sandstone that outcrops extensively in this part of the county, much of which is dominated by the softer and much finer Mercia Mudstone,  Notable Bromsgrove Sandstone buildings include parts of Lichfield Cathedral and Stafford Castle. The dark brown Bromsgrove Sandstone was formerly known as the Lower Keuper Sandstone or Keuper Building Stone.
